Oriental Academy was started in April 1960 in a lane of Kachi Chawni, adjoining Dewan Mandir, in four rooms on one kanal of land, and has taught from the same address ever since. In sixty-six years that adds up to over 80,000 student-years of schooling, counting the total enrolments in every year the school has been open.

Three generations of many families have studied here: grandfathers, then their children, and now their sons and daughters.

02 · Eligibility

Vacancies in each class are limited.

Nursery and the junior years
Most families join the school here, when a new session starts.
Classes I to X
A vacancy arises when a child leaves, for example when a family moves away from Jammu, so it is better to call than to wait.
Classes XI and XII
A fresh batch is admitted each session once the Class X results are out, in Medical, Non-Medical, Commerce and Humanities. Students from other schools are admitted to Class XI on the criteria given here.

The office will tell you the current position in your child’s class, including when there is no vacancy.
