On Saturday, 24 October 2026, students of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu, took part in Dogra Dharohar Di Jhanki, a cultural procession celebrating the heritage and traditions of the Dogras.

Students from different schools of Jammu walked through the markets and main roads of the city with tableaux, cultural presentations and traditional Dogra attire, and large crowds came out to watch. The organisers said the aim was to make the younger generation aware of the rich Dogra heritage and to keep the Dogra culture alive.

Our jhanki, Virasat-e-Duggar (the heritage of Duggar), showed a traditional Dogra wedding. A bride sat in a decorated doli, the groom danced through the streets with his baraat, sword raised, and a sign in Dogri invited everyone along:

तुस्सें सारें गी डोगरी ब्याह दा न्योता

You are all invited to a Dogri wedding.

Behind the doli, our students walked in Dogra dress: the girls in bright suits and dupattas, and the boys in white kurta pyjamas and saffron turbans. They danced along the route around a king in a long orange robe that carried the legacy of the Dogras: its painted symbols and Dogri placards were all made by hand by our students.

Each of our participants received a certificate. We are proud of every student who took part, and thankful to the teachers who prepared the jhanki with them.
