Students of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu, presented two healthcare projects at MindSpark-2026, an inter-school innovation challenge on “AI, Cognitive Science & Smart Technologies”. It was organised by the Skill, Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC), University of Jammu, on 30 October 2026 at the university’s Gymnasium Hall.
The challenge was open to students of Classes IX to XII. It received 110 online entries, and 53 teams were shortlisted to present. Both of our teams were among them. They competed in the Healthcare, Assistive Technology & Human Well-being category and presented their work to the jury, a panel of academicians from different universities, at their own stalls.
Lunova: a menstrual health app for schoolgirls
Kirti Devi, Maheen Jabin and Shraddha Bhardwaj, students of Classes X and XII, built Lunova, a menstrual health app for schoolgirls with optional smart jewellery. The team said many girls are told that period pain is normal and must be borne silently. A study of 473 schoolgirls in North India found that nearly three in ten missed school during their periods.
Lunova helps a girl record her cycle and pain. It checks her entries against medical guidelines and tells her when her symptoms need a doctor. It creates a one-page “Period Passport” in English and Hindi that she can show her doctor. A silent signal lets her ask a trusted friend or teacher for help at school without saying anything in class. The team also designed three pieces of jewellery to go with the app: a ring, a heat band worn at the waist, and a pendant that guides calm breathing.

NeuroStep: a smart prosthetic leg
Pratham Verma, Siddhant Sarmal and Avni designed NeuroStep, a smart below-knee prosthetic leg. More than five lakh people in India live with an amputation. Many prosthesis users get skin sores where the leg meets the socket, and in hilly areas a fall can go unnoticed for hours.
The team designed two versions. NeuroStep X is an advanced model. NeuroStep Saathi is a budget version with a target cost of ₹20,000 to ₹30,000. Features include an antimicrobial liner to protect the skin, and a fall alert that sends a notification with the user’s location to the family’s phone. The team showed the fall alert working at their stall.

Lunova and NeuroStep are student designs, not medical devices.
Well done to both teams, and thank you to SIIEDC, University of Jammu, for giving school students a stage to show what they can build.
